I haven't figured out how to do a fade from one image to the next. Add the line xscreensaver to /etc/ xdg/ lxsession/ LXDE/ autostart or /etc/ xdg/ lxsession/ LXDE-pi/ autostart. The xscreensaver program waits until the keyboard and mouse have been idle for a period, and then runs a graphics demo chosen at random.
